Pretoria – The SA Police Service Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Investigations (FCS) unit has taken over investigations into the Zanzou nightclub incident in which patrons were stripped naked and violated by bouncers.
Video clips of the disgusting episodes that involved men being forced to perform lewd acts on themselves have been doing the rounds on social media.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe on Tuesday, (18 February 2025), three victims aged 20, 21, and 22 have since come forward and reported the assaults at the Brooklyn Police Station.
Responding to the SAPS call to lay charges, the complainants reported the matter to the police on Monday evening.
According to the victims, they were a group of five friends who were subjected to the abuse.
“Police are confident that the other two victims will be traced and their statements will also be included in the docket,” said Brigadier Mathe.
The victims allege that the incident happened in January 2023 wherein a dispute arose between the five friends, bouncers, and manager of the Zanzou nightclub.
The bouncers and manager allegedly forced the five clubgoers into a store room and began assaulting them.
The men were stripped naked and ordered to perform lewd acts on themselves while the abomination was filmed.
Brigadier Mathe said police were searching for at least eight people linked to the criminal abuse at the nightclub.
“Police are also calling on a man who claims to be a former bouncer of the nightclub who goes by the name of Pablo on social media to also come forward to assist police investigations,” said Brigadier Mathe.
“Pablo has made numerous allegations and police are of the view that he would be instrumental in assisting police to solve this case.”
The FCS unit, responsible for the investigation of sexual-related offences is investigating various crimes including compelled rape, assault, crimen injuria, intimidation, and kidnapping.
