Johannesburg – At least 12 people have died in a bus crash along the R21 in Ekurhuleni.
Reports from the scene of the Tuesday morning, (11 March 2025), crash indicate that 45 people were injured.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services spokesperson William Nhladi said the bus overturned several times before landing on its side.
This was the second major deadly bus crash in South Africa in just three days.
On Sunday, (9 March 2025), nine people lost their lives when their bus crashed in KwaZulu-Natal.

Speaking to reporters on the scene of the tragedy, Ekurhuleni Roads and Transport MMC Andile Mngwevu rejected suggestions that the 65-seater bus was overloaded.
He said the bus had 56 passengers.
Four other passengers later died in hospital, raising the death toll to 16.
The driver of the bus survived the crash with injuries and was taken to hospital.
