Cape Town – The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has revealed that an incident involving a British Airways flight occurred at Cape Town International Airport on Thursday, (17 April 2025).
In a statement made available to The Bulrushes, ACSA said: “The details of the incident remain under the purview of the airline, and we therefore encourage media to liaise directly with British Airways for detailed information.
‘However, ACSA can confirm that all standard emergency protocols were immediately and effectively activated in accordance with international aviation safety procedures.
“The incident was classified as a Phase 2 emergency activation.”
The aircraft returned to the Cape Town International Airport, which provides full operational support and services after hours – ensuring a coordinated and efficient response.
“ACSA’s emergency response teams, in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, were swiftly deployed to manage the situation and provide assistance to affected passengers,” the statement said.
“We are pleased to report that the incident was managed without injury or harm, and safety remained our top priority throughout.
“The aircraft has been assessed and declared serviceable. Its departure has been rescheduled to accommodate mandatory crew rest requirements.”
