Mbombela – Mpumalanga authorities have taken a tough stance against defying road rules and crimes during the Easter holiday.

Earlier this week, Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security, and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie officially unveiled 50 new vehicles for traffic control along the N4 road in Mbombela this week.

MEC Macie warned against driving under the influence of alcohol and excessive speeding, which contribute to vehicle crashes.

The MEC said the new vehicles would enable law enforcement officers to execute their duties effectively.

“These vehicles are expected to augment the ageing fleet while also enhancing law enforcement visibility,” MEC Macie said.

“The province will deploy traffic law enforcement officers in numbers across all major and identified routes to maximise police visibility.”

The MEC also appealed to road users to fully cooperate with law enforcement officers.

“I am certain that all our municipalities will unleash their resources in their respective jurisdictions to ensure that law enforcement is not only seen but felt by all road users,” Macie said.
