Johannesburg – The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has announced the appointment of Professor Caesar Nongqunga as the party’s new president.
In a statement released on Monday, 9 June 2025, the ATM said Professor Caesar Nongqunga is succeeding Vuyolwethu Zungula.
“As we welcome Professor Caesar Nongqunga into his new role as President, we acknowledge his profound vision for the ATM,” the statement said.
“Professor Nongqunga is not only a leader but also a beacon of hope for many.
“His commitment to establishing true democracy and holistic liberation encompasses the creation of a conducive environment for physical, psychological, social, socio-economic, and spiritual growth for citizens.”
The ATM said Professor Nongqunga’s extensive experience in both leadership and community service – building houses, initiating agricultural projects, providing educational funding, and creating jobs – reflects his dedication to uplifting those in need.
The ATM said Zungula led the party with unwavering dedication since its inception in 2018.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Zungula for his remarkable service over the past seven years,”‘ the ATM said.
“His visionary leadership has been instrumental in registering the party, advocating for the voiceless, and firmly establishing the ATM on the political landscape of South Africa.”
Under President Zungula’s stewardship, the ATM said it has grown from its modest beginnings to a formidable force, advocating for economic transformation and the upliftment of the marginalised communities across our nation.
“President Zungula continues as Party Leader in Parliament, where he will continue his tireless work in advocating for the emancipation of the downtrodden and ensuring that their voices are heard,” the statement said.
“The decision made by the National Executive Committee to separate the roles of party advocacy and organisational building will greatly benefit the ATM.
“With Professor Nongqunga focusing on party leadership and growth, and Hon. Zungula concentrating on parliamentary leadership, we are poised for a new era of growth and effectiveness.”
Professor Nongqunga’s educational background is exemplary, holding multiple degrees including a Doctor of Theology and a Doctor of Religious Education, alongside qualifications in civil engineering and business administration.
His leadership of more than 30 years, as the Chief Apostle of the Twelve Apostles’ Church in Christ has been marked by visionary guidance and unwavering faith, both of which he brings to the ATM.
“This strategic division allows us to address the multifaceted challenges we face with renewed vigor and clarity of purpose,” the ATM said.
“We look forward to this new chapter in the African Transformation Movement, where we remain committed to our founding ideals and the transformative vision that lies ahead.”
