Standerton – Two Mpumalanga women accused of stabbing to death another woman they accused of stealing more than R1 000 from them have been remanded in custody.
In a scene reminiscent of a script from the movie franchise “Friday the 13th”, allegations are that 26-year-old Queen Nhleko and 25-year-old Lungile Khumalo viciously attacked a woman they accused of stealing their money.
The deadly assault occurred a week ago, on 6 June 2025, when the accused pair allegedly accosted 35-year-old Fikile Zwane and her boyfriend Chicco Radebe, also 35, in the streets of Sakhile Township near Standerton.
Narrating events further on Friday, (13 June 2025), Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said, “They accused her (Fikile Zwane) of stealing R1 000 at a party they attended together”.
The two accused allegedly forced Zwane and Radebe into a shack, where they used a cable and a shovel to beat them.
Escalating the assault, the accused allegedly stabbed both Zwane and Radebe.
“After realising that the woman was unresponsive, they took her to the clinic,” recalled Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane.
Unfortunately, Zwane, who had bruises on her head and stab wounds on her back, was pronounced dead at the clinic.
“The boyfriend is currently in hospital in a critical but stable condition,” Ndubane said.
Subsequently, the police arrested Khumalo and Nhleko.
The accused appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 June 2025, where they were remanded in custody.
Khumalo and Nhleko face murder and attempted murder charges.
They will spend the long weekend, including Youth Day, behind bars.
Their matter will resume next week on Wednesday (18 June 2025).
