Pretoria – Sundowns is mourning the passing of the football team’s former owner, Angelo Tsichlas, who died in a car crash along Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Pretoria.
In a terse statement on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, the Chairman of Sundowns and the Motsepe Family, the Board of Directors, Technical Team, Players, Management, Staff, supporters, and the entire “Yellow Nation” express their “deepest condolences to the family and friends as we mourn the loss of former Mamelodi Sundowns owner Angelo Tsichlas”.
The statement added: “We pray that the Almighty God comforts and strengthens his family, friends, business associates and everyone that knew him.
“Angelo and the Tsichlas family contributed significantly to the South African football landscape and played a pivotal role in the growth of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.
“The legacy, life and memory of Angelo will be carried on by the many lives he continued to touch.
“May the soul of Angelo Tsichlas Rest in Peace.”
Tsichlas, husband of Natasha Tsichlas, former Sundowns managing director and current vice-president of the South African Football Association, was a key figure in South African football for decades.
Between 1990 and 2003, Angelo and Natasha Tsichlas co-owned Mamelodi Sundowns alongside Abe and Solly Krok, helping steer the club through one of its most formative periods.
When the club changed ownership, Angelo remained involved, including a stint in 2015 as chief technical adviser.
