Mathafeni – The remains of missing six-year-old Yolanda Mujovo have sadly been found in bushes.
The child mysteriously disappeared from her home in Mathafeni, near Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit), Mpumalanga, on Monday night (23 June 2025).
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said Yolanda and her four-year-old sister were left alone at home by their dad, who had gone to a local shop.
“According to a report, the father is said to have informed his children to lock the shack for safety purposes,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.
Upon his return at about 20:40, Yolanda was nowhere to be found, and her young sister could not explain what had happened.
The lock on the door of their modest home had been tampered with.
“The matter was then reported to the police in Nelspruit, where a missing person’s file was opened,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.
“Police conducted a search whereby various units were called in to assist, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
“On Friday (27 June 2025) evening, the police and the paramedics received information regarding a child who was found in the bushes.
“Unfortunately, the medical personnel reported that she has passed on.”
He said a criminal case was opened.
“A case of murder has been opened preliminary investigation suggests that the girl could have been raped as well,” Brigadier Mdhluli said.
