Johannesburg – The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has appointed Mary-Ann Joubert to act as Group Executive: Enterprise Security and Compliance (GE: ESC).
The move follows the suspension of the GE: ESC Lt. General (Ret.) Mazwandile Petros over allegations of “operational irregularities”.
ACSA announced Friday,11 July 2025, that it had
placed the GE: ESC “on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of an independent investigation into allegations of operational irregularities”.
ACSA said: “The decision to place the GE: ESC on precautionary suspension is a crucial measure to protect the integrity of the investigative process and any current and subsequent processes.
“The day-to-day functions of ACSA will not be affected by this decision.
“In the interim, Ms. Mary-Ann Joubert has been appointed to act as GE: ESC to ensure continuity and maintain operational stability.”
ACSA did not give any details of the alleged “operational irregularities” that led to Petros being suspended.
However, earlier this year IOL reported that an investigation revealed that Petros approved the purchase of 36 Explosive Trace Detection units from Mafoko Security for a staggering R40 million in July 2022.
At the time IOL said the decision was under scrutiny for its questionable nature and potential misuse of taxpayer funds.
ACSA said it will report back once the matter is finalised.
