Durban – Five people died in a horrific car crash along the R66 Nyezane in Dokodweni, Gingindlovu, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

“After what has been a relatively safe winter holiday, we have just received a report from our dedicated team from the Road Traffic Inspectorate informing me about a horrific accident on R66 Nyezane in Gingindlovu,” said KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma.

He said three adults and two children perished in the collision involving a Ford Ranger and Hyundai Grand i10 on Sunday, 20 July 2025.

Relaying a message from the collision scene, MEC Duma said: “According to RTI, the Hyundai Grand i10 was transporting eight passengers.

“They were travelling from Nongoma to Durban. Three other passengers from the same vehicle survived.

“In a second vehicle, a white Ford Ranger LDV, there were four passengers who survived.

“They were travelling towards Gingindlovu.”

MEC Duma stated that the RTI teams, the South African Police Service, and emergency services were present at the collision scene.
