Johannesburg – Four suspects arrested in connection with the 20 November 2022 murder of Oupa John Sefoka, better known as “DJ Sumbody,” have appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
At the highly anticipated court appearance on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, the accused were named as 55-year-old Michael Pule Tau, 61-year-old Katiso Molefe, 45-year-old Tiego Floyd Mabusela, and Musa Kekana (age not specified).
National Prosecuting Authority Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the accused were arrested in connection with the 20 November 2022 murder of Oupa John Sefoka, also known as DJ Sumbody, in Woodmead.
“Mabusela and Kekana were already in custody for a separate case involving the attempted murder of Tebogo Thobejane when they were linked to the current charges,” Mjonondwane said.
“The accused were arrested following allegations that they are hitmen, one of them allegedly ordering the murder of Sefoka during the commission of the offences.
“The shooting resulted in the deaths of Sefoka, Sibusiso Walter Mkoena, and Sandile Shawn Myeza.”
Two victims died at the scene, while the third was hospitalised and later died.
All the accused face three counts of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The case was postponed to 29 July 2025 to allow the State time to profile the accused, who has applied for bail.
“Separately, the State added another accused in the attempted murder case of Thobejane,” said Mjonondwane.
Nthabiseng Nzama, now accused number five, is alleged to have facilitated fund transfers between accounts, fully aware that the money originated from criminal activity.
Nzama made her first court appearance and was granted bail of R10 000.
Her case was postponed to 26 August 2025 to appear together with her co-accused.

Meanwhile, Kenny Kunene, who recently made headlines raiding rundown buildings in search of undocumented foreign nationals, finds himself at odds with the law.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA) Johannesburg leader was found at the home of Katiso Molefe – a suspect in the murder of DJ Sumbody – by the police when they came to effect the arrest.

Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Johannesburg Caucus Leader, has called for the dismissal of Kunene from his MEC job.
“Kunene’s role as MMC for Transport is absolutely untenable, after he was found by police at the home of a murder suspect, as police arrived to arrest the suspect,” said Kayser-Echeozonjoku.
“The Democratic Alliance (DA) calls for Kunene’s immediate resignation, and if he will not resign, Mayor Dada Morero must fire him.
“The laughable alibi offered by Kunene on ENCA this afternoon must be rejected out of hand by any reasonable South African.
“No, Kenny, you were not at a murder suspect’s house to ‘drive a journalist there’”.
Kunene, who was convicted in 1997 of running a Ponzi scheme for which he served six years in prison, said he had taken a journalist to Molefe’s house in Sandton to do an interview.
Kayser-Echeozonjoku countered: “The Patriotic Alliance shows itself more and more every day to not have the best interests of South Africa at heart.
“It is a selfish, underworld organisation that associates with crime and corruption.”
