Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has handed over 43 titled deeds to the residents of Soshanguve.
The City of Tshwane MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Alderman Aaron Maluleka, together with the Premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, and the MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, handed over the titled deeds to the residents during the Integrated Provincial Service Delivery Operation held at Giant Stadium.
A title deed is a legal document that describes the ownership of property.
The annual target was set at 2 500, and the City was able to hand over 2 632 title deeds.
In Quarter 4, the City has issued 494 title deeds (338 from the backlog and 156 new title deeds).
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, Alderman Maluleka said that through the handover of the title deeds, the City of Tshwane was restoring the dignity of the residents.
“We will continue with other parts of the city to ensure that everyone gets their title deeds,” he said.
“We are excited that a 70-year-old has shown jubilation after receiving their title deed.”
Beneficiary Johannes Maimela said that he is happy to finally receive his title deed that proves that he is rightful owner of his home.
“I moved into the area as a squatter in 2005 and received the RDP house in 2015,” Maimela said
“I am relieved that I now have full ownership of the house and a legacy that I will leave behind for my children and grandchildren.”
Alderman Maluleka advised residents not to sell their RDP houses for at least eight years in accordance with the Housing Act, 1997 (Act 107 of 1997).
When buying a house, residents are cautioned to look for the following information:
• The name of the previous and present owner.
• The price of the property.
• If servitudes on the property are identified (a servitude is a portion of the property that has been allocated as a municipal service point).
• If the title deed specifies whether any conditions affect the property, such as a pre-emptive clause.
