Sabie – A man and a woman have been found dead inside their car in a secluded area along the Longton Pass Road in Sabie, Mpumalanga.

While the circumstances surrounding the deaths were unclear, their car’s front bumper and bonnet appear to have been damaged

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, said: “The recovery [of the bodies] came after police received information”.

The bodies were found on Monday, 25 August 2025.

Brigadier Mdhluli said police had earlier received a report of a missing couple.

“According to a report, a couple went missing on Saturday evening, 23 August 2025,” the police spokesperson said.

Although the bodies were yet to be positively identified, police were not ruling out the possibility that the deceased could be the missing couple.

Brigadier Mdhluli said the bodies were found inside a red sedan vehicle on the Longtom Pass Road (Sabie/Lydenburg).

They have been taken to the state mortuary.

“Forensic tests will be conducted, which include a postmortem as well as DNA tests,” Brigadier Mdhluli said.
