Johannesburg – Leading SA politics journalist Tshidi Madia has died after a short illness, her family announced.
In a terse statement posted on social media, the highly respected journalist’s family said she passed away in a hospital in the morning on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.
She was only 42.
Tshidi’s employer, Primedia Broadcasting, said it “regrets to inform its audiences about the passing of Tshidi Madia, EWN’s Associate Editor: Politics”.
EWN Editor-in-Chief, Nisa Allie, said: “Tshidi was the jewel in EWN’s crown. She was a powerhouse.
“She was brave. She was the consummate professional who worked tirelessly in pursuit of the truth.
“She led by example, mentoring and training many young political journalists.
“She formed a formidable politics team, which she was so proud of, and delivered one exclusive after the next, with absolute humility and professionalism.”
Her popular podcast, “Politricking with Tshidi Madi,” engaged with South Africa’s most significant political figures.
