Durban – UMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) members on Friday, 29 August 2025, marched through Clairwood, Ethekweni, KwaZulu-Natal, where they visited factories and truck companies suspected of employing undocumented foreign nationals.
MK Party supporters came out in numbers for the march, led by “Labour Desk” members, party convener Mlungisi Mancinza, and spokesperson Mthobisi Shinga.
Earlier this week, the MK Party announced that it would embark on a march to “remove illegal foreigners”.
However, several factories in Clairwood opted to remain closed on Friday.
Undeterred, supporters in party regalia marched through the streets of Clairwood.
At the SMI Trucking Transport company, MK Party members demanded to see the owner, who declined to speak to them.
They eventually handed a memorandum to a man who identified himself as Derick Naidoo, a representative of the company.
The MK Party also collected hundreds of Curriculum Vitae (CV) documents from its job-seeking members, who they said could replace undocumented foreign nationals working in the area.
Desperate for a job, MKP member Nothando Gwala said: “It’s been five years of being unemployed.
“I have a caregiver certificate, HIV and Aids care certificate, hygiene in cleaning services [qualification], and a code 10 driver’s license.
“I hope today that the MK labour desk will take my CV, because if we submit our CVs to these companies, they are thrown into dustbins.”
At Tankers Cleaning Services, the police prevented most MKP members from entering the property.
However, a few members from the party’s labour desk were allowed to enter and speak to company representatives.
At the Clairwood Market, MK Party members handed a memorandum of grievances to the authorities there.
The vegetable market allegedly employs undocumented immigrants instead of South Africans.
Mlungisi reported that different companies have requested that the MK labour desk submit CVs in the following companies: Lu Trans-16 workers (code 14), School wear- 45 workers, other truck companies 45 workers (code 14), textile industry -50 workers.
MK Party convener Mancinza said some companies in Clairwood had since requested CVs for job seekers to fill available vacancies.
Mancinza said the following companies were looking to hire workers:
- Lu Trans – 16 workers with code 14 driver’s license,
- Other truck companies – 45 workers with code 14 driver’s license,
- Textile industry – 50 workers.
- School wear – 45 workers
Earlier this month, Stats SA released the Quarterly Labour Force Survey that revealed the country’s unemployment rate has again ticked up, increasing by 0.3 of a percentage point in the second quarter of the year.
This puts the jobless rate at 33.2% from the first quarter’s 32.9%.
