Johannesburg – Another charge has been added to the murder, attempted murder charges against Mozambique national, 26-year-old Lazarus Lito Anthonio, who resides at Carousel View.

Anthonio faces charges of murder, relating to the killing of his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend Kgaogelo Marota, and attempted murder of his current 20-year-old girlfriend.

To make matters worse, the District Prosecutor has added a fresh charge related to breaching a protection order.

As a result, the accused, Anthonio, on Friday, 5 September 2025, provisionally abandoned his bail application at the Temba Magistrate’s Court.

On 12 August 2025, the Temba Magistrates’ Court granted a protection order in favour of the ex-girlfriend, prohibiting the accused from physically abusing her or entering her residence.

However, on 21 August 2025, just 10 days later, the accused allegedly went to Dubai Tavern in Maubane village, where the ex-girlfriend was with a friend, and stabbed her.

He then returned to his residence, where he allegedly attempted to kill his current girlfriend.

In the early hours of 22 August 2025, the police received information on the accused’s whereabouts and arrested him, and he remains in custody.

National Prosecuting Authority Gauteng Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjanahe said the case has been adjourned to 17 October 2025 for further investigations.
