IPID says bail was revoked after the accused intimidated witnesses

Johannesburg – Police Sergeant Mandla Buthelezi, accused of killing his girlfriend, Crime Warden Chesnay Kepler, is back behind bars after his bail was revoked.

The 42-year-old Sergeant Buthelezi allegedly fatally shot 22-year-old Kepler at her home in Eldorado Park in December 2024.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Lizzy Suping said Buthelezi was arrested today, Thursday, 11 September 2025.

“Buthelezi allegedly violated his bail conditions as he is accused of intimidating witnesses in the murder case,” Suping said.​

“He was arrested at the Johannesburg High Court today, during his appearance today, and the case has been remanded to 11 October 2025 for pre-trial.  

The IPID spokesperson said the accused will be detained at the Moroka Police Station until his next appearance.
