Mashishing (Formerly Lydenburg) – In a shocking turn of events, four policemen from Limpopo have been arrested in the neighbouring province of Mpumlanga on suspicion of housebreaking and robbery.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said three policemen and their female colleague were arrested in the early hours of Friday, 10 October 2025, alongside a civilian suspect.
The police officers and their alleged accomplice were arrested at a house occupied by foreign nationals from Ethiopia.
Brigadier Mdhluli said the Ethiopians were asleep when the police officers and their accomplice allegedly stormed into the house and robbed the foreign nationals.
The alleged robbers had arrived in three vehicles, including two marked police cars and a bakkie.

However, before the alleged robbers could make their getaway, other police officers who had been alerted to the robbery arrived on the scene and arrested them.
“Three male South African Police Service (SAPS) members and one female member, all attached to various Limpopo SAPS units, were arrested,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.
“A civilian suspect was also detained. Both the marked police vehicle and the Toyota bakkie were seized.”
The registration number plates had been covered with black tape.
Brigadier Mdhluli said two of the arrested police officers were found in possession of service firearms and ammunition, which were seized.
“Further investigation at the scene led to the seizure of boxes of illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value of about R1.5 million and R950 000,” the police spokesperson said.
Commenting on the arrests, Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi said: “No one is above the law.
“We will not tolerate any form of criminality within our ranks.
“The swift arrest of these individuals demonstrates our zero-tolerance approach to corruption and criminal behaviour.”
The suspects will spend the weekend behind bars before their appearance in the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 October 2025.
