Johannesburg – Eight people have died in a horrific accident involving a truck and a minibus taxi on the N3 Van Reenen Pass.
KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the collision occurred earlier this morning, Thursday, 30 October 2025.
“The preliminary report from RTI indicates that eight people have died. We will update figures and give a more detailed report as we move along,” said MEC Duma.
“We are saddened by this accident in view of the fact that we had an accident-free Transport Month.”
The scene of the accident is currently active.
MEC Duma said the collision took place on the Free State side, “but our RTI team was the first on the scene”.
He added: “We will therefore withdraw as everything has been handed over to the Free State Province”.
