Johannesburg – Red-hot striker Victor Osimhen has missed out on Africa’s coveted prize, African Footballer of the Year, after defender Paris Saint-Germain’s defender Achraf Hakimi scooped the award.
The Nigerian football star, who plays for Galatasaray SK in Turkey, won’t play at the FIFA World Cup 2026 after his national side lost 4-3 on penalties in the African playoffs final.
Victor Osimhen stamped his authority on the 2024–25 Turkish Super Lig in emphatic fashion.
In his first full season with Galatasaray, he netted 26 league goals, winning the Golden Boot by a comfortable margin.
Hakimi was named African Footballer of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat on Wednesday, the first defender to earn the prize in 52 years.
Hakimi finished first ahead of Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah, and Osimhen in the voting.
