Johannesburg – Two former senior members of the State Security Agency (SSA), Patrick Mshothola and Thulani Dlomo, have been arrested for allegedly stealing about R12 million from the state.

Former SSA staffers Mshothola, who acted as project manager within the Chief Directorate Special Operations, and his co-accused, Dlomo, formerly Deputy Director: Counter Intelligence, face charges of theft, fraud, forgery, and uttering.

Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Spokesperson Henry Mamothame said Mshothola and  Dlomo were arrested on Sunday, 30 November 2025, in a joint operation involving IDAC, the National Prosecuting Authority, and the SSA.

“They subsequently made their first court appearance at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Monday, 1 December 2025,” Mamothame said.

The two were granted R20 000 bail each with stringent conditions attached.

The conditions include:

  • surrendering their travel documents to the state,
  • not interfering with the state witnesses,
  • reporting to their respective police stations every Friday between 08h00 and 16h00, and
  • the accused were prohibited from disposing of their immovable properties.

Their matter was postponed to 26 January 2026 for disclosure and a high court date to be secured.
