Mpumalanga Jailbreak: Second Escapee Fana Fenyane Rearrested, 4 Others Still At Large

Sehlakwane – Police have rearrested a second escapee, 38-year-old Fana Fenyane, in Sehlakwane outside Groblersdal, Limpopo.

The first escapee to be rearrested was 37-year-old Clayton Flank, who was rearrested at his hideout near Mashishing (formerly Lydenburg), Mpumalanga.

Fenyane and Flank were part of a group of six awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the holding cells of Lydenburg Police Station.

The other escapees, Isaac Malope, France Malatjie, Sergio Mandoza, and Francisco Vasco Maganja, were still on the run.

They face serious charges, including murder, rape, possession of unlawful firearm and ammunition, to malicious damage to property.

Fenyane was rearrested in the night on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.

Mpumalanga Police spokesperson, Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, said Fenyane would also be facing an additional charge pertaining to escaping from lawful custody.
