Durban – IFA Hotels & Resorts unveils a R50 billion vision to transform KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast.

Discover the marina and country estate set to redefine sustainable luxury living.

In a bold move set to reshape South Africa’s coastline, IFA Hotels & Resorts (IFAHR) has unveiled its Zimbali Vision 2030.

This transformative master plan is a long-term commitment to sustainable coastal living, introducing two pioneering projects: a world-class Marina Development and the expansive Zimbali Country Estate.

Together, they expand the Zimbali footprint into a R50 billion, self-sustaining ecosystem integrating luxury living, tourism, and nature on an unprecedented scale.

With a proven 20-year legacy and over R30 billion already invested in the region, IFAHR is launching its third major investment cycle.

“Zimbali Vision 2030 represents the convergence of global expertise and local ambition,” says Werner Burger, CEO, IFA Hotels & Resorts SA.

“We are introducing international design, infrastructure, and lifestyle concepts to South Africa, many for the first time in KwaZulu-Natal, and in some instances, the first in Africa.

“Our goal is to set a new benchmark for sustainable estate living.”

The Vision in Detail: A Marina & A Country Estate

The Zimbali Marina is conceived as a vibrant waterside destination, aligning with national marine-economic strategies.

It aims to establish premium waterfront living and a recreational landmark, including a proposed breakwater to convert an unsafe beach into a protected, swimmable shoreline.

The development will also host a dedicated NSRI rescue base, significantly enhancing coastal safety.

Across the N2, the Zimbali Country Estate, launching in early 2026, will offer around 1,000 residential opportunities—from one-hectare estates to plots under R1 million.

Designed as an agriculture-integrated precinct, it promises sustainable countryside living within a secure, modern estate framework.

An Engine for Growth and Stewardship

Zimbali Vision 2030 is projected to generate approximately 40,000 direct and indirect jobs, with a contractor strategy prioritizing local labour and skills transfer.

Environmental stewardship is core, with plans for estuary rehabilitation, pollution control, and biodiversity protection. A portion of future sales will be dedicated to long-term sustainability.

“Our long-term success depends on the success of the communities and environment around us,” says Elliot Nkosi, Board Director, IFA Hotels & Resorts SA.

“Our commitment is not a once-off intervention but an ongoing responsibility.”

This ambitious vision positions KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast as a globally competitive destination, designed not just for today but as a legacy for decades to come.
