Durban – Search and rescue teams have recovered two bodies of the three persons reported missing after their car was washed away during heavy rain in the Longacres Drive area, South of Durban.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the car with five occupants was swept off a low-lying bridge around midnight on Sunday, 21 December 2025.

Two people managed to get to safety relatively unscathed and alerted authorities to the incident.

Jamieson said around 2:30 on Monday, 22 December 2025, a body was found.

He said a short while later, the second body of a man in his 40s was spotted and was being recovered from the river.

“The first body [recovered] was believed to be the driver, a male of about 25,” said Jamieson.

He said search and rescue personnel, which included the SA police Service, were in the process of recovering the body.

The search continues for the third individual.
