Johannesburg – The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) has announced the appointment of seasoned unionist and journalist Phakamile Hlubi-Majola as its spokesperson.

The appointment comes just days after Hlubi-Majola resigned from the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), citing death threats.

Earlier in the week, NUMSA accepted the resignation and thanked her for her service.

Today, Thursday, 5 February2026, Martlé Keyter, MISA’s Chief Executive Officer: Operations, said MISA partnered with Hlubi-Majola’s communications company, Blaqstar Kreativ, to assist its media and communication department in achieving greater heights.

“MISA is excited to welcome Hlubi-Majola to our team,” Keyter said.

“We share a deep commitment to defending the rights of workers.

“Our partnership is key to ensuring that the voices of MISA’s members are amplified.”

Keyter added: “MISA is always striving to improve our service delivery to our valued members and to make official communication accessible to everyone”.

Hlubi-Majola said she is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving workers and their families.

“Together with the very capable MISA communications team, that is led by Sonja Carstens, I look forward to elevating the organisation and to achieving even greater things,” Hlubi-Majola said.

The partnership takes effect immediately.

MISA is the majority trade union in the retail motor industry, representing more than 75 000 members, and has experienced phenomenal growth over the past four years.
