Hammanskraal – A 38-year-old woman accused of fatally shooting her neighbour’s 4-year-old son has been granted bail of R5 000 by the Themba Magistrate’s Court.
Chris Hani resident, Tselane Lebohang Mautlu, who is accused of shooting her neighbour’s infant son, Abokeng Minyuko, appeared in court on Thursday, 5 February 2026.
Mautlu is facing a charge of murder.
It is alleged that on 25 January 2026, at approximately 21h00, the child was playing with other children in the street near the accused’s residence when he was shot.
Upon realising that the child had been injured, the accused took him to a nearby clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Thereafter, the accused drove to the police station and handed herself over to the police.
National Prosecuting Authority Gauteng spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, stated that the state opposed the accused’s release on bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that she is known to the state witnesses.
However, the magistrate ruled that it was in the interests of justice to release the accused on bail, subject to the stipulated conditions, including relocating from Chris Hani, reporting to the police station twice a week, and refraining from possessing or using a firearm.
The matter has been postponed to 15 April 2026 for further investigations.
