eMkhondo (Formerly Piet Retief) – There was a sombre atmosphere at the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison on Friday, 6 February 2026.
The sadness and sorrow were etched on the faces of staff members who were mourning the death of a colleague.
A day earlier, 49-year-old provincial traffic inspector Dumisane Ndlovu was knocked down by a minibus taxi on the N2 in eMkhondo.
“The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison has lost another traffic law enforcement officer in a road crash,” stated Mpumalanga Spokesperson for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi.
He lamented that Traffic Inspector Ndlovu was the fourth law enforcement officer to be fatally run over by a vehicle on the same road.
Inspector Ndlovu was doing a routine stop-and-check on the N2 when he was knocked down by a minibus taxi.
Mmusi added: “Ndlovu is the fourth law enforcement officer to lose life on the same stretch of road in similar circumstances.
‘A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.”
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie, conveyed sympathies to the grieving family of the traffic inspector.
“We don’t have enough traffic officers to police our roads. Losing one officer cripples our efforts to enhance road safety,” MEC Macie said.
Police were investigating the matter and had not reported any arrests.
