By-Elections: IFP Retains Seat In KZN, While The PA Won A Seat In Western Cape

Johannesburg – The Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced the results of the by-elections held on Wednesday, 11 February 226.

The IEC stated that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) retained its seat in KwaZulu-Natal while the Patriotic Alliance (PA) won a seat in the Western Cape.

The new councillors are as follows:

KwaZulu-Natal

The new IFP Councillor is:

• Bakhanyile Nobuhle Shozi in ward 13 in the Umzumbe Municipality, KZN213.

The party retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 43.23% of the total votes cast, compared to 50.09% the 2021 Municipal Elections.

Voter turnout was 51.01%.

Western Cape

The new PA Councillor is:

• Naellowine Charmonay Elsebé Esau in ward 16 in the George Municipality, WC044.

The party won the seat with 65.26 % of the total votes cast.

The seat was previously held by the Good party in the 2021 Municipal Elections, in which they attained with 38.80% of the total votes.

Voter turnout was 52.80%.
