Durban – A hostage situation at Ntuzuma Police Station, north of Durban, ended after a suspect was fatally shot.
Narrating events that led to the fatal shooting, ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said just before 08:30 in the morning on Monday, 16 March 2026, they were alerted to the incident.
“Initial reports were that an alleged suspect had overpowered a police officer and managed to get their firearm and opened fire in the station,” Jamieson said.
“Multiple paramedics responded to assist, and once the scene was made safe by the South African Police Service (SAPS), paramedics were allowed access.
“Multiple officials were assessed on scene; however, only one person was transported to a nearby Hospital for further care.”
Jamieson said the alleged suspect was “killed in a gunfight with SAPS”.
The area was cordoned off by SAPS to allow further investigations to take place.
