Polokwane – A 35-year-old man who crashed his BMW into a trailer before police found an unlicensed AK-47 assault rifle in his boot will appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

Narrating events that led to the arrest, Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said: “The arrest was effected on Sunday, 5 April 2026 at approximately 23:00 along the N1 North outside Mokopane”.

This was after a traffic officer responded to a motor vehicle accident scene where a white BMW, driven by the suspect, had collided into the rear of a trailer being drawn by a Toyota Hilux.

“During the process, the suspect requested to fetch his medication from the boot of his vehicle,” recalled Colonel Ledwaba.

“The officers accompanied him, and upon inspection, an AK-47 assault rifle with no ammunition and an obliterated serial number was discovered inside the boot.

“The suspect was immediately placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

Colonel Ledwaba said police investigations are ongoing.
