Pretoria – Police have arrested a second senior municipal official from the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality on suspicion of fraud and corruption.

“The 40-year-old senior official was arrested this morning on Sunday, 19 April 2026, in Johannesburg,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

He faces charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating and or obstructing the ends of justice.

The first senior official to be arrested from the same metropolitan municipality on similar charges was nabbed on Saturday, 18 April 2026.

Media reports named the arrested suspect as suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Deputy Commissioner Julius Mkhwanazi.
