Delmas – Extortion-accused taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and his three co-accused have been granted R70 000 bail each by the Delmas Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.

Sibanyoni, Bafana “King of Sky” Sindane, Mvimbi Masilela, and Philemon Msiza are accused of extorting over R2 million from a businessman in “protection fees” between 2022 and 2025.

In a twist of events, the accused were summonsed to appear before the Delmas Magistrate’s Court just over a week after their bail matter was struck off the roll at the Mkobola Magistrate’s Court in Kwaggafontein because the prosecutor, Mkhuseli Ntaba, was a no-show.

As a result, the accused, who had been arrested for the alleged extortion offences, were requesting bail when their matter was struck off the roll, and they were freed.

Earlier today, Thursday, 28 May 2026, all four extortion-accused briefly appeared in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court, where they were again freed, this time on bail with conditions including that:

  • They should report to the police station as stipulated.
  • They should not threaten witnesses either directly or indirectly.

The matter was adjourned to 1 September 2026.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has filed for leave to appeal against Chief Magistrate Tuletu Tonjeni’s ruling that prosecutor Ntaba was guilty of contempt of court for failing to report for duty.

Prosecutor Ntaba has since claimed that he opted not to report for duty following death threats, which he reported to his seniors.

In an about-turn, the NPA, which had initially suspended Ntaba, has announced that it was appealing the matter and that the appeal stays the warrant of arrest issued by the chief magistrate against the prosecutor.

Her conduct is now under investigation.
