Mbombela (Nelspruit) – The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) says it is intensifying efforts to unlock economic opportunities, promote investment, and accelerate inclusive development across the province.
In a recent update, MEGA said it was intensifying these efforts through strategic engagements and site visits to key development projects.
As part of its ongoing programme to strengthen sustainable economic growth, MEGA participated in a Board and EXCO Mini-Workshop on Revenue Generation Strategy held in Mbombela on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
The workshop focused on discussions around MEGA’s long-term financial sustainability, innovative funding models, and implementation plans to strengthen the agency’s developmental mandate.
In advancing this mandate beyond strategic planning, MEGA revealed that it also conducted important site visits to the Tekwane Citrus Farm land development project and the Hillsview land development initiative.
These visits form part of the agency’s broader commitment to facilitating catalytic projects to stimulate economic activity and directly benefit surrounding communities.
The Tekwane Citrus Farm development presents significant opportunities within the agricultural value chain, with the potential to expand production, support agroprocessing initiatives, and create sustainable employment opportunities for local residents.
The project is expected to contribute meaningfully towards food security, rural development, and the growth of black-owned agricultural enterprises.
The Hillsview land development project represents a transformative mixed-use development opportunity poised to unlock large-scale socioeconomic benefits for communities in the area.
The envisaged development includes opportunities for housing, business development, commercial activity, trade and investment attraction, and long-term infrastructure expansion.
Through these strategic interventions, MEGA says it aims to ensure that development translates into tangible community impact by creating jobs, empowering local enterprises, and improving residents’ livelihoods.
MEGA CEO Isaac Mahlangu emphasised the importance of coordinated development planning and strategic partnerships in driving inclusive growth.
“These projects represent more than infrastructure and land development; they are about restoring dignity, creating sustainable livelihoods, and building local economies that can thrive for generations,” the MEGA CEO said.
“MEGA remains committed to ensuring that communities become active participants and beneficiaries of economic development.”
The agency states that it remains committed to working closely with government, private sector investors, municipalities, and local communities to accelerate implementation and maximise developmental impact.
As Mpumalanga continues positioning itself as a strategic investment destination, MEGA says it is focused on delivering projects that promote industrialisation, entrepreneurship, trade expansion, and inclusive economic participation across the province.
