Pachuca – South Africa’s national football team, “Bafana Bafana,” have arrived in Mexico ahead of the World Cup opener against the co-hosts.
The squad landed Tuesday, 2 June 2026, just over a week before they take on Mexico at Estadio Azteca.
The opener is on 11 June 2026.
It will be Bafana’s first World Cup since 2010 when they drew 1-1 with Mexico.
Coach Hugo Broos chose Pachuca for its high altitude, modern training at Universidad del Futbol, and recovery facilities matching Azteca’s elevation.
Mexico’s team account welcomed Bafana fans with appreciation, while security escorted the bus, and locals showed warm hospitality.
The South Africans, whose trip was delayed by a day over visa issues, are in Group A along with Mexico, South Korea, and Czechia.
