KwaMhlanga – The amaNdebele nation, still in mourning for the passing of King Makhosonke II, was left in shock over revelations that Queen Sekhothali was in the process of a divorce when the much-loved monarch died suddenly.
King Makhosoke II, whose birth name was Enock Makhosoke Mabhena, passed away at the age of 65 on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, after 40 years on the throne.

At the King’s memorial yesterday, Sunday, 14 June 2026, Queen Sekhothali’s father, Prince Masupa Seeiso, revealed that his daughter was estranged from the King and was living separately.

Many mourners were taken aback by the revelations, which had not been made public before.
While paying tribute to his son-in-law, King Makhosoke II, Prince Masupa Seeiso told mourners that the royal couple’s divorce papers had already been filed in court.
Prince Masupha, the younger brother of the late King Moshoeshoe II of Lesotho and an uncle to King Letsie III, said it was the king who filed the divorce papers at the High Court in Pretoria.
However, he did not reveal the reasons.
“I came here to pay tribute to my late son-in-law, as he was married to my daughter. I hope he will see the heaven’s gate through your prayers,” Prince Masupha said.
“I am always a person who likes to speak the truth as it is.
“So I cannot shy away from the fact that the love affair between the son-in-law and my daughter was no longer good.
“He was already fed up with my daughter.”
Amid hushed murmurs, Prince Masupha added: “The divorce outcomes will still be released. It is obvious because the one who my daughter was married to is no longer with us.”
“I’m standing in front of you all, appealing to the royal family and its nation at large to refrain from abusing my daughter.
“I’m pleading with them to remain patient and allow her to conclude her mourning period peacefully, as she won’t even take anything away from them.
“Thereafter, she will return to where she is now residing.”
The king has a previous failed marriage.
In 2017, King Makhosoke II approached the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court to end his three-year customary marriage to Nosipho Mnguni, who was in her 20s .
The king told the court that lobola was paid for Mnguni by his brothers, on his behalf, without his consent.
That marriage was terminated.
