ANC Retains Seats In Eastern Cape By-Elections

Johannesburg – The African National Congress has retained two seats in the by-elections held in the Eastern Cape.

“In the by-elections held on Wednesday, 17 June 2026 in the Eastern Cape, the African National Congress retained its seats held in the 2021 Municipal Elections,” announced the Electoral Commission (IEC).

The IEC said the new ANC Councillors are:

• Tandiswa Goniwe in Ward 01 in the Buffalo City Municipality, BUF. The party retained its seat with 45.45% of the total votes cast, compared to 45.96% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 41.27%.  

• Ndyebo Lennox Makeleni in Ward 10 in the Buffalo City Municipality, BUF. The party retained its seat with 64.79% of the total votes cast, compared to 49.16% in the 2021 Municipal Elections.

Voter turnout was 38.06%.
