Durban – The U.S.-Africa Trade Commission (USATC) has postponed the official launch of its South Africa Chapter and the accompanying two-day summit that was scheduled for June 18–19 at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The USATC said the decision followed consultations with stakeholders and partners, emphasising that the delay was intended to ensure the event achieves its “intended strategic impact” and provides a strong platform for advancing trade, investment, innovation, and institutional cooperation between Africa and the United States.
Despite the postponement, USATC reaffirmed its commitment to its mission and long-term objectives in South Africa and across the continent.
Preparatory work to build partnerships, facilitate trade and investment opportunities, and advance economic cooperation initiatives will continue.
The summit had been designed as a landmark gathering, bringing together government leaders, diplomatic representatives, traditional leadership, business executives, development finance institutions, academics, and investors.
Its agenda focused on economic growth, investment promotion, industrial development, and cross-border collaboration.
The establishment of the South Africa Chapter remains a strategic priority for the Commission.
South Africa is described as occupying a pivotal position in Africa’s economic landscape and serving as a gateway for trade, investment, and regional integration.
USATC said it remains committed to building a sustainable institutional bridge to strengthen commercial, academic, and development partnerships between Africa and the United States.
The inauguration of Prof. Gostina “Gabbey” Malope as Country Director for South Africa will still take place as part of the rescheduled program.
The USATC said it looks forward to formally introducing the South Africa Chapter and its leadership to stakeholders at the appropriate time.
While the launch event has been delayed, USATC stated it continues to foster strategic partnerships, support enterprise development, promote investment opportunities, facilitate market access, and create platforms to advance shared prosperity between African economies and the United States.
The USATC expressed appreciation to confirmed delegates, speakers, sponsors, partners, diplomatic missions, government representatives, and business leaders who had committed their support to the summit.
The USATC said a revised date will be announced after further consultations and logistical planning.
