Mbombela (Nelspruit) – Police in Mpumalanga are searching for the owner of a plot in Ogies, where they uncovered an illegal alcohol manufacturing operation.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said law enforcers acted on a tip-off and swooped on the property on Saturday, 27 June 2026.
“Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Ogies were alerted about suspicious activities taking place at one of the plots in Ogies,” said Colonel Masondo.
“The police responded swiftly. Upon arrival, they found a large quantity of unlabelled alcohol, brewing equipment, chemicals, and packaging material.”
The estimated street value of the items and illicit alcohol found is still being determined.
“The seven suspects who were found at the premises were arrested and charged with contravention of the Liquor Act,” said Colonel Masondo.
“Further investigation revealed that all the suspects are undocumented foreign nationals.
“A charge of contravention of the Immigration Act was added.
“The search for the owner of the property is underway.”
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Ogies Magistrate’s Court in due course.
“The SAPS would like to thank the members of the public who continue to report when they notice suspicious illegal activities,” the spokesperson said.
