Johannesburg – ActionSA president, Herman Mashaba, has slammed the SA government for “focusing disproportionately on policing the frustration of South Africans who feel forced to protest due to continued inaction”.
Mashaba’s comments were in apparent reference to the police and other law enforcement agencies being placed on high alert for anti-immigrant protests planned for tomorrow, Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
In a statement made available to The Bulrushes on Monday, 29 June 2026, the ActionSA leader demanded that the Government of National Unity “finally takes its constitutional responsibility to act against illegal immigration seriously, instead of focusing disproportionately on policing the frustration of South Africans who feel forced to protest due to continued inaction”.
Mashaba said that as South Africans prepare to take to the streets tomorrow, his ActionSA party calls on every marcher to demonstrate, through peaceful and lawful conduct, that the legitimate concerns about the sovereignty of South Africa deserve to be heard.
“While government has made R600 million available to police public demonstrations tomorrow, ActionSA believes that equal urgency should be applied to strengthening immigration enforcement and ensuring the effective implementation of existing laws, rather than only finding the resources to police citizens who, when they demand action to enforce our laws, are told that resource constraints prevent meaningful enforcement,” Mashaba said.
“Importantly, since entering Parliament in 2024, ActionSA has worked to address this crisis by submitting constitutional amendments to put South Africans first, and by consistently pushing during every budget cycle for increased funding for the Border Management Authority and immigration enforcement, so that our borders are better secured and our laws properly enforced.
“Across municipalities where we are represented, ActionSA has also moved motions to ensure that local government plays its part in tackling illegal immigration.
“In the City of Tshwane, we have led the most decisive enforcement operations of any municipality in the country to clamp down on illegal immigration and strengthen by-law enforcement.”
Mashaba said South Africa is home to peace-loving people who are widely known for their hospitality and warmth towards visitors, something “ActionSA takes pride in, but we are no longer willing to tolerate those who abuse our laws and generosity”.
He added: “The GNU government must now get off its hands and do its job to uphold the sovereignty, security and rule of law in our country”.
