Pretoria – Suspended Pretoria Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair has pleaded not guilty to corruption charges linked to alleged security upgrades installed at his Gauteng home by facilities management company Bosasa, now known as African Global Operations.
Nair appeared before the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Monday as his trial got underway.
The State called its first witness, an employee of a Bosasa subsidiary, who testified about the alleged installation of security upgrades at Nair’s residence.
According to prosecutors, Nair received security improvements worth about R200 000 at his home in September 2016.
The upgrades allegedly included an electric fence, alarm system, perimeter beams and a CCTV surveillance system.
The State alleges that the benefits constituted gratification provided by African Global Operations, formerly known as Bosasa, in exchange for Nair acting in a dishonest or improper manner while serving in his influential position within the judiciary.
Nair has denied all the charges against him.
The matter will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
