Moscow – The Moscow metro system has welcomed its 200th carriage of state-of-the-art Moskva-2026 trains.
The Moskva-2026 trains made their debut on the Green Line last December.
The Moscow Metro operates approximately 7 000 carriages across various models, with 80% of the entire fleet now consisting of new-generation trains.
The phased modernisation of rolling stock continues on Line 2:
- The state-of-the-art Moskva-2026 trains made their debut on the Green Line last December. Today, the metro system welcomed its milestone 200th carriage of this latest generation.
- Modern trains now account for over 70% of the fleet on Line 2, which currently includes 208 carriages of this specific series.
- Key advantages of these models include walk-through gangways, wider doors, over 400 device-charging ports, redesigned seamless seats, and a 10% increase in passenger capacity.
Before entering regular service, every new train undergoes rigorous trial runs.
It must log at least 300 kilometres without a single technical fault flagged by metro specialists – representing one of the world’s most stringent safety vetting processes.
“The latest Russian-made Moskva-2026 series trains are among the most technologically advanced and reliable metro models available,” noted Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maksim Liksutov.
“We are consistently upgrading the capital’s rolling stock in line with the objectives set by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
“Since 2010, the share of modern trains in the Moscow Metro has risen from roughly 13% to 80%, and this figure is projected to exceed 90% by 2030.
“In 2026–2027, the metro system will receive over 700 additional carriages, which will complete the fleet renewal on the Line 2 and begin operating on the future Line 17.”
