Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has expelled two MPs – Pumlani Kubukeli and Dr. Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala from the party.

In a statement announcing the move on Thursday, the MK Party said: “The Office of the President of the MK Party confirms the expulsion of Mr. Pumlani Kubukeli and Dr. Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala from the Party, with immediate effect”.

The statement issued by MK Party National Spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu added that: “Following the termination of their membership, the Party’s Secretary-General has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly to formally communicate the decision and to initiate the necessary process for their subsequent removal from the National Assembly”.

The MK Party said the pair were expelled following a series of acts and conduct which the party leadership has deemed detrimental to the good name, reputation, integrity and interests of the organisation, and have undermined the unity and organisational discipline of the party.

The statement explained that the decision was taken under the executive authority vested in the Office of the President in terms of Section 7(2)(h) of the uMkhonto weSizwe party’s constitution, which empowers the President to establish, restructure, appoint or remove organisational structures or deployees in the interest of the party and its strategic direction.

“Their membership in the uMkhonto weSizwe Party is therefore terminated with immediate effect,” said the statement.

“The party reiterates its commitment to organisational unity, discipline and integrity.

“All members and structures are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the party constitution in the interests of unity and comradeship.

“The Office of the President wishes Mr. Kubukeli and Dr. Litchfield-Tshabalala well in their future endeavours.”
