Moscow – Passenger traffic has begun on the first section of the metro Line 17 in Moscow.
Five new stations have connected Delovoy Tsentr with Bulvar Generala Karbysheva.
Thanks to the launch, more than 550 000 residents of five districts will be able to reach the city center faster — travel time will be reduced by three times.
Russian President Vladimir Putin participated in the opening ceremony of the new section.
The Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line became the 17th line of the Moscow Metro.
In the future, it will be extended to Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya, and in the long term — to Krasnogorsk.
The new line has improved transport services for residents of the Presnensky, Khoroshyovo-Mnevniki, Shchukino, Dorogomilovo, and Filiovsky Park districts.
Passengers have gained convenient transfers to the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), Lines 8A, 4A, 4 and Big Circle lines of the metro.
“Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened traffic on the first section of the Line 17 between the Delovoy Tsentr and Bulvar Generala Karbysheva stations,” said Maksim Likhutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Transport and Industry..
“Approximately 290,000 jobs are concentrated nearby.
“ By 2030, due to the construction of business and social facilities, this number will grow to 400,000.
“The launch of this direction has become a powerful impetus for the development of the capital.”
After the opening of the first section, more than 90 000 trips per day are expected.
By 2030, the passenger flow of the entire Line 17 is expected to increase by almost three times and exceed 250,000 passengers per day.
The launch of the new line will also allow for the redistribution of traffic flows and a reduction in the load on Zvenigorodskoye Highway and Marshal Zhukov Avenue.
The development of adjacent areas will create conditions for an increase in the number of jobs by approximately 35%.
Passengers on the line are served by modern Russian trains Moskva-2026.
The trains are equipped with updated seats, through aisles, wide doors, and a large number of charging ports for gadgets.
In 2027, the next section is planned to open — from Bulvar Generala Karbysheva to Novorizhskaya station.
In 2030, the line is planned to be extended from Novorizhskaya to Izumrudnye Kholmy.
Service for the Line will be provided by the Solntsevo depot. In the future, a new Novorizhskoye depot will be added to it, with construction planned to be completed in 2027.
