A man, who was walking along North Coast Road in Durban on Tuesday, was fatally run over by an out-of-control car that rebounded from a collision with another vehicle.

The man was run over at the intersection of North Coast Road and Moreland Drive in Avoca.

Emer-G-Med said paramedics responded to an accident scene where a light delivery vehicle and an SUV had collided at high impact.

The light delivery vehicle left the road and ran over a pedestrian before smashing through a brick wall.

Shawn Herbst, the spokesperson for Netcare 911, said the pedestrian was trapped between the wall and the bottom of the bakkie.

“The Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services had to use hydraulic tools to lift the vehicle to free the deceased,” said Herbst.

“The pedestrian, a man believed to be approximately 30 years of age, was declared dead on arrival of paramedics,” said Emer-G-Med.

The female SUV driver suffered moderate injuries. She was attended to on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital.

Police were on the scene and are investigating the circumstances leading to the death of the pedestrian.
