Shell will find out on Friday if it can go ahead with its controversial seismic survey aimed at exploring oil and gas on the Wild Coast.
The seismic survey was expected to begin this week, but an urgent application halted Shell in its tracks.
Four environmental and human rights entities on Monday sought an urgent interdict at the Makhanda High Court to stop Shell from beginning the seismic survey.
Worried the seismic survey could cause irreparable damage to the Wild Coast, four entities – the Border Deep Sea Angling Association, Kei Mouth Ski Boat Club, Natural Justice, and Greenpeace Africa – sought the urgent court interdict.
After listening to arguments from both sides Judge Avinash Govindjee was expected to hand down a ruling Friday.
Shell has already been granted permission by relevant government authorities to carry out its ocean seismic survey.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane is on record as backing Shell’s project.
The Amazon Warrior survey ship is already in the vicinity.
