The bodies of two men accused of being part of a gang of four burglars have been found days after all the suspects were forcibly held and beaten up in Kanyamazane, Mpumalanga.
All the suspects were taken away and forcibly held allegedly by irate residents after reports of a burglary in which various items were stolen including a 40-inch Hisense television, three cellphones, and clothing.
The police said the suspected burglars were abducted in Kanyamazane township, 30 km from Mbombela (Nelspruit) on Wednesday, 6 April 2022.
On Saturday, two bodies of the abducted suspected burglars were found in Pienaar, Mpumalanga.
The police said one of the suspected burglars escaped. He had suffered injuries from the beatings.
“His family took him for medical treatment,” said the police.
However, the police said one of the suspected burglars was still missing.
A man has since been arrested in connection with the abduction, assault, and murder.
At the weekend, police said they were still in pursuit of other suspects and their investigation regarding the missing person was continuing.
The police said the arrested man was expected to appear before a court to face two counts of murder and possibly additional charges.
Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has warned residents not to take the law into their own hands.
“People should learn to allow the wheels of justice to turn whenever they have complaints,” said General Manamela.
“It has been proven several times that the law does punish the wrongdoers, especially with the convictions and sentences that we continuously communicate.”
