MILD SYMPTOMS: Health Minister Dr. Joe Phaahla on Tuesday tested positive for Covid-19
SHARE

Vaccinated Health Minister Dr. Joe Phaahla on Tuesday tested positive for Covid-19 after experiencing minor symptoms.

“Minister Phaahla took tests earlier today and the results came back positive, and he immediately self-isolated,” the department said.

“He will perform his official duties from home for a period of 7 days, and all his planned contact meetings have been rescheduled, while others converted into virtual.

“This is a reminder that the pandemic still remains amongst us and infectious, hence the Department continues to report COVID-19 daily positive cases and deaths.”

The department said Dr. Phaahla has received two doses of J&J Covid-19 vaccine, which he believes boosted his immunity against the severity of the virus.

The Department said it would like to remind the public that lifting the Covid-19 restrictions doesn’t mean the pandemic is over, hence vaccination serves to remain accessible at all times at selected sites.

#COVID19 UPDATE: 6,595 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 263 new cases. Today @HealthZA reports 13 deaths; of which 1 occurred in the past 24–48 hrs. Total fatalities are 101,935 to date https://t.co/gWbkvVCzI7 pic.twitter.com/xyv4z8xtX2
