A body of a man has been discovered on a riverbank near a farm in disaster-hit Jagersfontein in the Free State.
Earlier this week on Wednesday, a dam at a mine in Jagersfontein collapsed, resulting in water rushing through the surrounding areas.
A few weeks before that a tailings dam collapsed in the same area flooding houses with sludge.
At least one fatality was reported.
Houses, cars, and other property were destroyed. Hundreds of people were displaced in the disaster.
To add to the pain and misery, authorities have announced that a body had been found.
“A male body was discovered at a riverbank on a farm in Jagersfontein about 16 km from where the mine disaster occurred,” Free State Provincial Government said in a statement issued Friday.
“This unknown male body was discovered by a passerby and health emergency officers were alerted.
“The unknown male body is yet to be subjected to full forensic pathology testing whilst tests will also be done with potential family members for identification purposes.”
