Tennis ace Novak Djokovic on Sunday claimed his 89th Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) singles title in Tel Aviv, Israel, by overwhelming his opponent Marin Cilic 6-3 6-4.
Djokovic’s victory in the Tel Aviv Watergen Open final over the second-seed Croat was the Serb’s first singles tournament win since winning Wimbledon earlier this year in July.
Showing no signs of slowing down, the 35-year-old Djokovic was impressive as he went through the tournament without surrendering a single set.
Djokovic is widely considered the best men’s tennis player of his generation, however, his world ranking in singles by the ATP had fallen to 7 before his weekend victory.
The Serb, whose ranking has been distorted by controversy around the Covid-19 vaccine that saw him miss big events, will next defend his title in Paris at the last ATP Masters tournament.
Djokovic’s performance in Israel sends an ominous warning to his opponents in Paris.
