Mbombela [Nelspruit] Former Barberton Mine Administrator, 29-year-old Simphiwe Sangweni, and his partner, 26-year-old LadyPeace Sinothando Nhlenyama are wanted by the Hawks in connection with the theft of more than one million rand.
The elite crime busters said a warrant for the arrest of the couple was issued last year, on 5 November.
Allegations are that in 2020 Sangweni fraudulently transferred money belonging to his employer Barberton Mine into his bank account. Sangweni then allegedly moved the ill-gotten loot to Nhlenyama’s bank account.
The Hawks said the total prejudice to Barberton Mine was an actual loss of R1.2 million.
The wanted pair have not been seen since the warrant for their arrest was issued.
“During the investigation, it was established that Sangweni colluded with the former mine employees – an assistant financial accountant and a debtors clerk,” said Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi on Wednesday morning.
“The former employees were arrested after the court issued warrants for their arrest and their case was provincially withdrawn pending the arrest of the couple.”
The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Zodwa Mokoena is appealing to all members of the public who might know the whereabouts of the suspects to share the information by calling the investigating Officer, Captain Dietlof Meyer on 071 481 2977 or can report the matter to the nearest police station.
The Hawks aid all the information received will be treated with confidentiality.
